Korean Buddhism

Context

Korean Buddhism

A calm introduction to the Korean Buddhist imagery that gives The Jijang Fractal its central doorway.

Korean Buddhism and The Jijang Fractal

Korean Buddhism enters The Jijang Fractal through places, images, gestures, halls, temple silence, and figures such as Jijang Bosal. The project does not turn Korean Buddhism into decoration. It treats the tradition as a living cultural and spiritual field that must be approached with care.

Bogwangsa is one important doorway. Mantifang’s Bogwangsa Temple during the pandemic gives the longform context for temple atmosphere, stillness, and the hall of Jijang.

Korean Buddhism as image, place, and responsibility

For this project, Korean Buddhist context matters most where it touches lived attention: a hall, a painted beam, a bodhisattva image, a lantern, a vow, a threshold. The work is not a textbook. It is a literary encounter with images that ask how suffering is seen and how care is carried.

Wonhyo and Korean Buddhist insight

Wonhyo matters because his remembered awakening story shows how perception itself can become the threshold. For a Mantifang entry, read Wonhyo Cave Awakening. For the broader series currently verified in search, see Wonhyo and the Buddhist Landscape of Gyeongju.
